Israel used Gaza as a test laboratory for new weapons. Was this morally justified in war?

Alice A asked:

After working for 10 days at the Shifa Hospital in the war-torn Palestinian territory, Dr. Mads Gilbert, a member of a Norwegian triage medical team in Gaza, blasted Israel for conducting experimental military work in the impoverished strip.

” Gaza is now being used as a test laboratory for new weapons,” Gilbert told reporters at Oslo’s Gardermoen airport upon his return home on Monday.

Among the weapons Israel was using are so-called Dime (dense inert metal explosive) bombs designed to produce an intense explosion in a small space. The bombs are packed with tungsten powder, which has the effect of shrapnel but often dissolves in human tissue, making it difficult to discover the cause of injuries.
Dr Fosse said he had seen a number of patients with extensive injuries to their lower bodies. “It was as if they had stepped on a mine, but there was no shrapnel in the wounds,” he said. “Some had lost their legs. It looked as though they had been sliced off. I have been to war zones for 30 years, but I have never seen such injuries before.” However, the injuries matched photographs and descriptions in medical literature of the effects of Dime bombs.
Is all fair in war as the old adage says? Or have the Israeli commanders and soldiers lost their immortal souls?
Please bear in mind that in Gaza Hamas has homemade Kassam rockets which are so ineffective that, although they fired over 2000, only 2 Israelis were killed. Also, of course beside white phosphor and DIME bombs Israel used multimillion dollar helicopter gunships, tanks and state of the art missiles. Most of the casualties were children and 100,000 civilians made homeless by “scorched earth” policy of homes destruction.
It’s interesting to se how much pro-Israeli, brutally ant- Gazan civilian propaganda is churned out when I asked a question about morality. Doesn’t this speak volumes about Israeli immoraility?

Thank you Ivor – I did check your reference and amazingly yes even the Vatican beleives Israel now behaves like the Nazis.

Using any weapon against terrorists who are attacking you is justified.

Blame the cowardly Muslim terrorists for all civilian deaths. They were attacking Israeli civilians while hiding behind civilians in Gaza. Israel acted to protect its civilians.

  2.   discord71 Says:

Give it a rest..Hamas used Gaza as a stage to provoke war..While keeping their own people in the thick of it..The same folks that voted them into power. If you don’t like Israel’s response to the constant bombing..Quit bombing them..This isn’t rocket science..

  3.   Dan in Miami Says:

After having 10,000 rockets and mortars land in Israel . . . . I think it is amazing that anyone is alive in Gaza.

If the people of Gaza had sent 10,000 rockets and mortars into Texas . . . .every man . . . .woman . . . child . . . dog . . . and goat would be dead in Gaza.

They should be thankful to be alive . . . and STOP launching rockets into Israel.

I agree it is not just at all.
But I can’t think of a war that has been totally ‘just’.

Too many civilians are dying and it needs to stop, from both sides.

Edit – have you heard that the BBC will not show the appeal for aid in Gaza?
They don’t want to be seen as taking the Palestinian side. It’s a charity!!!

    Hi, Alice A:

And Hamas, like Hezbollah, tested some new long-range missiles with multi-turrent nozzles.

Did you know they booby trapped and set ambushes in advance, then provoked Israel for the “kill” by firing 70 rockets the day before the cease fire expired. They lost the fight they provoked and now shout “FOUL!”, and “WE WON!” Such nonsense!

Thanks to God, Israel found the map of these booby-traps and ambushes and used it to their advantage. God is still with Israel!

As a Jew, I am terribly sad for the innocent who were killed or wounded. I wish your question would have been a bit more even-handed. Why did Israel feel that it had to go to war? Did Hamas force Israel’s hand by sending its missiles to wreck havoc in civilian areas? Was the Norwegian doctor a Hamas agent? Why did Hamas have its agents hide in civilian areas?

  7.   Angel Says:

Israel is a terrorist state. plain and simple.

  8.   ivor Says:

Yes, profoundly yes. Blatant Blitzkrieg against poverty stricken people is bad enough but the vindictive use of illegal non- conventional weapons in densely inhabited areas?

God in Heaven must be railing against the Israelis and preparing a special place in purgatory.

For all the Israeli propaganda merchants – please remember the FACT Israel corralled the 1.5 million Gazans into what even HIS HOLINESS THE POPE’s representative has called “a concentration camp” for 18 long months without fresh water, food or medical aid. The poor Gazans had to fight back eventually – even with the primitive weapons that they had. They fought back after 18 months of oppression and Israel annihilated their children!

  9.   Maurog II Says:

War is the best place to test new weapons, actually.

“According to military databases, Dime bombs are intended for use where conventional weapons might kill or injure bystanders – to kill combatants in a house, for example, without harming people next door. ”

Best bombs ever to use in the Gaza situation, in my humble opinion. If this is how Israel managed to keep the civilian casualties vs. Hamas casualties percentage so low, kudos to them.

  10.   Azuka Says:

I believe that war is terrible. The Israelis must feel that way too.

That is why I think they took so long to retaliate and take action against these terrorists. When dealing with terrorists there is no negotiation possible.

It may seem harsh, but in the larger view I think an intense and effective war effort is more humanitarian than a drawn out ’status quo’ sort of effort not designed to win. This is the path that the despicable UN would lead us down.

Bottom line. Defend yourself against the enemy who would destroy you. Don’t start a fight, but when you find yourself in a fight, make sure you finish it.

This is no different than the extremist terrorist attacks against the United States except that the US political figure heads running the show these days don’t seem to really have the will to do what it takes to win and end the war.

  11.   dman63 Says:

Every war (especially in the last few centuries) has been a proving ground for new weapons. It is nothing new. Gas was used in World War 1. The Germans tested their newest weapons during the Spanish Civil War. Nuclear weapons were used twice at the end of World War 2. Napalm, Agent Orange, and other nastiness was used in Viet Nam. Those using the weapons do not consider the morality when they want (or need) to get an edge on an enemy.

  12.   muslimviolet Says:

Was this morally justified in war?
Israel will stop at nothing to attempt to justify their horrendous actions.

When Muslims kill in cold blood they are ‘terrorists’
When Israeli’s kill in cold blood they are ‘retaliatory victims’

Can you notice a pattern ppl? By the looks of it, many non-Muslims have started to realize the REAL truth behind the Arab/Israeli conflict. Let’s hope for a change.

    peace.

  13.   Copacabana Kitty Says:

The US military really has no interest in peace in the Middle east as it make a perfect proving ground for testing weapons.

  14.   dove Says:

and is this the reason hamas attacted Isreal again even after they pull
    away..go and cry somewhere else..

  15.   Michelle R Says:

Your defending Hamas in firing rockets at civilian towns is a bit much. First, there were far more than 2000 fired and more than 2 killed. Secondly, the fact that few people were killed by them is not because they were ineffective – the property damage they cause is extensive, destroying homes and schools – but because the Israeli government built thousands of bomb shelters to protect its citizens so that people can run for safety, while Hamas was building concrete-reinforced tunnels to smuggle in more weapons. It is ridiculous to blame Israel for protecting its citizens from attack – would you feel better if more Israels had died from the rockets? Are attacks on civilians only a bad thing in your mind if the government (like Hamas) uses them as human shields and denies them a safe place to hide?

No matter how much you feel for the Palestinian people, Hamas is not the good guy here.

  17.   Al-Andalus cαtღ♡قطة ألإندلس ❀ Says:

NO never was it morally justified.
It is truly heart-breaking to read stories of the victims shattered lives, children and young adults who have lost both legs, are suffering extreme physical and mental agonisng pain, are having nervous breakdowns etc because of their agony and trauma, the parents having to attend funerals of their children with no bodies to bury because they have been blown to shreds or some who only have small piles of skin and bones to bury (link in the source below). Its heart-breaking :(

It has been estimated by the Chief of Ambulance and Emergency in Gaza: “around 14 percent of the 5000 people injured in Gaza have become disabled for life.”

It is Doctors who have been to Gaza recently have concluded that the abnormal injuries seen suggest Israel’s use of unconventional weapons during its three-week onslaught. (link below) Evidence (injuries) speaks for itself!!!! They cannot lie their way out of this one!!

Yes Israel have been using Dense Inert Metal Explosive (DIME) that shreds the victims’ bodies in pieces —– Norwegian Doctor: Mads Gilbert (worked in Gaza’s main Shifa hospital during the first weeks of the Israeli blitz)
    ref/link:

The Doctors should know what has been used as they are the ones treating the victims so they can recognise the signs. So Israel cannot come out in denial as the evidence speaks for itself. But they try !!!!

I listened to the rude and nauseatingly hateful Israeli Spokesman, Mark Regev, on the Channel 4 News last week. It was unbelievable to listen to and well-done to Jon Snow. The spokesman even had the audacity to suggest that Hamas had been using white phosphorus when Jon Snow brought up Israel’s use of white phosphorus and he (Regev) was put on the spot in effect and was clearly embarrassed and to counter it he kept interrupting Jon when Jon was talking. He did this so many time with blah blah blah babble that you couldn’t even understand half the time. Every sane person listening to that news knew that he was lieing through his teeth and in complete denial and trying any way he could to turn the tables around to make the Israelis look like the victims – the ususal nauseating lieing hateful blah blah blah from an Israeli spokesman. Please listen if you missed it:

The Israeli government and her supporters are NAZIs. There is no doubt about it.

God bless all those who stand on the side of the Gazans and are helping them and helping the world to know the truth of Israel’s evil action….amen.
