Has there ever been a vote in Israel to move the settlements out of the West Bank?
HopelessZ00 asked:
I read many many comments that Israeli’s themselves are against the settlements being in the West Bank. But I really don’t understand why they are there then? Is there not a referendum of some sort? Is there not an Israeli polititian to say move them out? Everyone seems to disagree with the settlements but yet nothing is ever done about it. Please help me to understand why the settlements are there and what can be done about them. Thank you.

I dont think there ever has been, although I do wish there was. The zionist movement is just too disgustingly strong. Like you said, there are some Jewish people that would like to pull out of Gaza but generally they are a veryyy small minority. The problem with the whole Palestinian-Israeli conflict is not the Jewish people but the zionist and israelites who feel compelled to force people out of their homes and destroy the country that held home to thousands of people for many centuries. May all the innocent souls lost in this fight rest in peace.

The Peace Now Settlement Watch Report refers to 121 Israeli settlements and 260000 Jewish settlers in the West Bank.
People that answer here are not always what they seem.
I think most people in Israel think ..
“As far as I feel, we’ve got a God-given right to settle any part of the land. The settlements should be left there and more people brought in to settle the land.”
As opposed to …
“Giving up settlements will show good faith,”

There never has been a vote – but the idea of a withdrawl from the West Bank depends on an issue of Israel’s safety concerns being address. There will still probably be no withdrawl – but there my be a halt to further expansion.
Good Luck!!!

I don’t know. Has there ever been a vote to move Jews out of Tel Aviv?
Or how about a vote to move all Arabs out of the West Bank?
Let me ask you a question: If Israel actually did have such a vote to move all Arabs out of the West Bank, would they not be condemned worldwide?
And if the majority of Israelis did vote to move the Arabs out of the West Bank would you then argue that such a majority be upheld?
The reality is that it is easy for Israelis to say that they “do not want settlements” or they “don’t want any more settlements” as it doesn’t affect them directly.
But if such sentiments were carried to their logical conclusion, then they’d be supporting the making of the West Bank “Jew free” and thousands of people homeless merely because it will appease the Arabs in what would amount to a futile bid for peace.
So, here is what should be done about them. Let them thrive. Their existence does not displace a single Arab nor are they a threat. They are not a problem. They are only a problem because the Arabs make them an issue. I think, should realistic peace talks ever take place (they won’t in the foreseeable future, but that’s another story) then that is an ideal case in which the Palestinians can make concessions.

It is just a smokescreen.
By continually saying they will do something, they gain time to continue to build. They have no intention of removing these people.

The Peace Now Movement is calling to end the Israeli settlements every where.
